Athens - 10 March 2020
The Greek Shipping Hall of Fame has today announced that its Induction Ceremony & Dinner 2020, that was scheduled to take place at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, on Monday 6 April will be postponed until later in the year. This is due to multiple concerns raised by the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus internationally.
We have taken the decision not to proceed on the scheduled date with reluctance and we also regret that the announcement of the Hall of Fame’s new Inductees for 2019, as elected by members of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame Academy, will therefore be delayed as well.
But postponing the event has become inevitable in recent days as we have digested new advice from public health authorities and the travel restrictions faced by some of our overseas participants.
We believe postponement is in the best interests of our guests and the mission of the Hall of Fame to celebrate Greek shipping and the lives and achievements of our Inductees. These goals cannot properly be served at an event overshadowed by health concerns or doubts over the appropriateness of attending a large gathering.
The Hall of Fame would like to record its gratitude to sponsors and other stakeholders who have already expressed their support for our decision.
This year’s Induction Ceremony & Dinner will now take place at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, on the evening of Monday 5 October 2020. We particularly thank the Megaron for its cooperation in confirming a new date for this important event.
We look forward to welcoming all our supporters and guests on Monday 5 October for a great event that will include the announcement of the new Inductees.
