The Greek Shipping Hall of Fame has postponed the date of its annual Induction Ceremony & Dinner until September. The new date will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n
The Greek Shipping Hall of Fame dinner has established itself as one of the most\u00a0 prestigious and popular events in the maritime calendar. Paying tribute to Greek shipping and many of its historic personalities, the event traditionally includes the announcement of the latest Inductees, as elected by members of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame Academy.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s event was originally scheduled to take place as an outdoor, in-person\u00a0 dinner event on the evening of July 7.<\/p>\n
The decision to put the date back has been taken amid uncertainty about the\u00a0 attendance allowed for events in Greece. Currently, the maximum number of\u00a0 attendees allowed for gatherings is 100. It has been reported that raising this limit to 200 is under consideration, but the timing of any change remains unsure and in\u00a0 any case these numbers are insufficient to make an event such as the Induction Ceremony & Dinner viable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile the trend is positive, unfortunately we have now moved within a month of\u00a0 the scheduled date and it is impossible to proceed with a large event such as ours, requiring considerable preparations,\u201d commented Caroline Lowry, director of\u00a0 Phoebe Media & Events, the exclusive organiser of the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cPublic health and safety is our priority and we completely understand and support\u00a0 the authorities in their cautious, gradual approach in trying to steer us all back to something like \u2018normality\u2019,\u201d Lowry commented.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere has been very strong interest in this year\u2019s event and the Greek Shipping Hall\u00a0 of Fame strongly believes that it is worth making one more attempt to hold the\u00a0 event as an outdoors in-person dinner by rescheduling to September. If conditions\u00a0 remain unfavourable at that time then the Hall of Fame intends to change to a\u00a0 virtual event format as it did so successfully last year.\u201d<\/p>\n
If conditions permit us to proceed with the Induction Ceremony & Dinner as an in person event in September, naturally the event will follow \u2018best practices\u2019 with\u00a0 regard to public health.<\/p>\n
